Questions to  www.twitter.com/patrickdixon on future of mobile computing.

Will we see divergence or convergence - the latter is often talked about as a fundamental direction but the reality is far more complex.

Divergence and convergence will both be seen at the same time in personal devices, portable PCs and laptops. Mobile phones and web browsers still limited and always will be by screen size and data entry. That means for some uses we need big keyboards and ever larger screens, while for others we can use devices which are pocket sized or smaller. Comment by Futurist Patrick Dixon.

ALL true innovation is divergent - serving customers better in new ways.  Convergence means that everything looks the same, every product has identical features - really boring.  More seriously, it means that the only point of difference is then price (or brand name), and that usually means a spiral to the bottom - price war and reduced margins for all.
