Of course, the answer is YES, we can in theory clone the dead - and perhaps in practice. Clonaid claimed in January 2003 that they had cloned the dead son of a Japanese couple, tragically killed in an accident.. Dolly the sheep was cloned from frozen cells taken from her mother before death. Cells frozen in the right way could be used for cloning more than 30 years after death. Cells can also be kept alive at room temperature if grown in culture. But huge physical and emotional risks remain.
