Urgent ethical questions. Over the last decade I have lectured to thousands of fund managers from many different institutions including banks, responsible for hundreds of billions of actively managed investments, mainly entrusted to them by pension funds.  The global economic crisis highlighted a number of fundamental problems within the industry, that had been there for many years, and remain unresolved.  Issues such as over-charging, low performance, lack of confidence of fund managers in their own funds.  Restoring trust has to be an urgent major priority. Why is it that work-life balance is so often talked about, and so little shown?  Work-life balance is the key to developing high-performance teams. Keynote to European Commission.  I have spoken to audiences in over 50 nations about these and other issues, and wherever I go in industrialised nations, people talk about getting a better balance – especially women. Surveys show that work-life balance is number one or two priority for those leaving business schools. In a recent UK survey, 6 out of 10 of 25-35 year olds said they were looking for a higher purpose at work.  The more passionate people are about the work they do, the less they complain about work-life balance.

Chile Tsunami: after Quake - Live on Twitter

Major earthquake hit Chile 27th February 2010 - magnitude 8.8 earthquake close to the Chilean coast.  It triggered a Tsunami that began travelling at several hundred kilometres per hour across the Pacific Ocean. The first waves were expected to Hawaii at 11:19 Hawaii Standard Time but were also travelling along the South America coast. 53 nations were put on alert. Below you can see what people have been saying.  If you refresh your browser, it will instantly update.  Once again we see the power of social networking sites like Twitter to spread news rapidly around the world, though on this ocaision, most of the messages are rebroadcasts of other media coverage by people many thousands of miles away.
